Fantasy Golf Picks: Farmers Insurance Open

Last week was a rough one for my fantasy golf team. I fell out of first position and almost out of the Top-10 thanks to me not paying attention and making some pretty rough picks overall. Oh well; you live and learn. Redemption is around the corner for me this week at the Farmers Insurance Open, however, as defending champion Bubba Watson makes his way onto my roster again along with runner-up Phil Mickelson. 2012 Fantasy Golf Rankings

It’s that time of the year again, fellow fantasy sports enthusiasts, as the 2012 Fantasy Golf season is set to tee off next week at the Hyundai Tournament of Champions in beautiful Kapalua, Hawaii. Last season saw the resurgence of many PGA TOUR and European golfers up the fantasy golf rankings, and the crowning of a #1-ranked fantasy golfer for this upcoming year.

Golf’s World Cup Recap

For warm weather sports like golf and tennis, the year is coming to an end. For the most part, mainstream events have come to an end, and the remaining tournaments can be viewed on Direct tv sports channels geared specifically toward covering single sports. This does not mean, however, that there is nothing to be excited about, or to read about, regarding end of the year events in these sports. For example, Roger Federer just treated his fans to a magnificently reassuring display of brilliance at the ATP World Tour finals tournament – and, perhaps even more notably, the United States golf team just ended a lengthy drought by surprising the world to take the golf World Cup. Final Thoughts on 2011 Presidents Cup

As the 2011 Presidents Cup is now in the books (USA 19, Internationals 15), the world was treated to an exciting exhibition event that included most of the world’s best players on quite possibly the toughest golf course on the planet. I have shared my thoughts on the first two days of the Cup over the past few days, so I figure I will wrap everything up with my final thoughts on the 2011 Presidents Cup from Royal Melbourne in Australia.  Read more of this post

Mickelson & Furyk; Old Dogs’ New Trick

While everyone will be talking about the obvious pairing of Woods/Stricker vs Scott/Choi on Thursday in the opening round of the President’s Cup, another pairing should garner a good amount of attention for entirely different reasons.

Phil Mickelson and Jim Furyk have the distinguished honor of being labeled the ‘most experienced’ players on the American team, having appeared in a combined 31 President’s Cup matches in their careers. What is perhaps even more shocking – at least to me – is the fact that they have never been paired together during that stretch.

In fact, the only time Mickelson and Furyk have played together was at the 1999 Ryder Cup where they lost to Sergio Garcia and Jasper Parnevik.

That streak has come to an end, of course, as American captain Fred Couples will send this seasoned duo out to face the International team pairing of Retief Goosen and Robert Allenby. They will face-off in the fourth match of the day, which many Americans will be able to watch tonight as the Golf Channel broadcasts the event for the first time live in primetime.
