Fantasy Golf Picks: Honda Classic
February 29, 2012 Leave a comment
The 2012 Honda Classic returns this week to the PGA National Resort and Spa in Palm Beach Gardens, FL. Last year Rory Sabbatini held of Y.E. Yang to capture the title. Tiger Woods makes his first career appearance in this event, so he is likely to be a common name seen on many fantasy golf rosters. Click the link to see my fantasy golf picks for this week’s Honda Classic.
A List
Starter: Y.E. Yang; Bench: Kyle Stanley
Yang was the runner-up here last season and also recorded his first career PGA TOUR win at this event in 2009. His track record at this event is undeniable, thus making him a pretty solid choice to start this week. Stanley continues to play well from both a fantasy golf perspective and TOUR viewpoint. Hopefully he can keep up his solid play if Yang doesn’t work out.
B List
Starters: Lee Westwood, Tiger Woods; Bench: Robert Allenby, Mark Wilson
Westwood and Woods have been playing solid golf as of late. While many people will be picking Tiger this week, he’s still a solid pick from a points perspective. Westwood played well last week at the WGC Match Play before ultimately losing to Rory McIlory, who is also in the field this tournament. Allenby and Wilson also had strong showings at their respective tournaments last weekend, so here’s hoping they can keep the strong play going for another week if needed.
C List
Starter: John Huh; Bench: Charlie Wi
Huh recorded his first PGA TOUR victory last week at the Mayakoba Classic by holding off Allenby in a difficult 9-hole playoff. He is this week’s hothand pick. Wi has a strong track record here that includes a T13 in 2007 and consecutive top-10s in 2009 and 2010.
