The second round of the Korea Open is officially in the books and a traffic jam of familiar names is forming atop the leaderboard. American Rickie Fowler is among the group of players tied for the lead along with US Open champion Rory McIlroy and defending Korea Open champion Y.E. Yang at 5-under-par. Korean Mo Joong-kyung and Australian Bronson La’Cassie are also among the leaders.
Fowler continues to search for his first victory as a professional while McIlory is looking to win for the first time since his major victory at Congressional. McIlory has been on a bit of a hot streak as of late, returning to his form as evidenced by his tie for second place during last week’s Dunhill Links Championship in Scotland.
The 22-year old Fowler was named last season’s PGA TOUR Rookie of the Year and has also been playing strong golf as of late. His performance on Friday suggests that he might be on course for his first “W”.
“I got it around and I am in a good position for the weekend, so that’s a positive. I didn’t hit it as well as the first round and I struggled with the speed of my putting over the last few holes, so I have some improving to do. But I am still in a good position for the weekend,” said Fowler.
“It is a tough golf course and there are a lot of good players at the top of the leaderboard. I think the key for the weekend is driving the ball well, and if I do that, I think everything else will fall into place.”
